The wait is over—at least for PC players. Team Cherry, the studio behind the acclaimed Hollow Knight, has released the first post-launch patch for its sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong. The update, identified as 1.0.28470, is currently in a beta state and available exclusively for Steam and GOG users, representing a crucial step in refining the game's experience after its recent launch. To access it, players must opt into the beta branch on their respective platforms, where the download will automatically begin.

Unfortunately, this first update is not available for the Microsoft Store version, leaving a part of the PC community without access to the fixes and improvements. However, this beta patch is a clear sign that the developers are working hard to respond to player concerns and fix the game's most pressing issues.

A Welcome Relief for Players: Reduced Difficulty

One of the most welcome pieces of news in this update is the reduction in difficulty for the game's early bosses: Moorwing and Sister Splinter. Since the launch of Silksong, many players have expressed complaints about the high level of challenge these initial fights presented. Despite the game not including a difficulty setting, this patch shows that Team Cherry is listening to its community and is willing to make balance adjustments to offer a more friendly learning curve.

In addition to the bosses, the update also includes other significant balance changes. For example, the damage dealt by the formidable Sandcarvers has been reduced, while the prices for Bellway and Bell Bench are now slightly lower, making player progression easier. At the same time, rosary rewards for courier deliveries have been increased, and the scale of the pea pod collider has been slightly increased, which demonstrates a meticulous focus on small details that collectively improve Silksong's gameplay.

Critical and Minor Bug Fixes

This first beta version doesn't just focus on balance; it also fixes a series of bugs that could negatively affect the user experience. Among the most notable fixes is a solution for a bug that could cause players to lose their cape after the Slab escape sequence—a problem that caused great frustration. A persistent bug that could leave players stuck floating after bouncing off certain projectiles was also corrected.

The patch addresses flaws in quests and abilities, such as the "Wish Infestation Operation" quest now being completable in the late stages of the game, and the "Craft Bind" now working correctly in memories. Likewise, the bug that caused Silk Snippers in the Chapel of the Reaper to get stuck was fixed, and the issue with the Claw Mirror that left Hornet inverted after taking damage was resolved. Overall, the list of fixes is extensive, reflecting the team's dedication to polishing every corner of this vast world.

The availability of this beta patch on PC is a gesture that strengthens the relationship between Team Cherry and its player base. It shows that, despite the immense success of Silksong, the studio remains committed to its vision of delivering a well-polished and optimized game. Players now have the opportunity to test the changes and contribute with their feedback to an ongoing development that will hopefully extend to all platforms in the near future.
